Review: Kora Organics Turmeric Glow Collection

The health benefits of turmeric are no secret, its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory health benefits have led to a rise in supplements and turmeric lattes at every fashionable coffee shop.

As with any powerful ingredient, the beauty industry is finally catching up. From face masks, cleansers, and face creams, to foundations and concealers; beauty brands are starting to explore what turmeric can do for our skin.

What are the skincare benefits of turmeric?

Curcumin the compound found in turmeric is packed with antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory compounds which means when extracted through the right formulation, turmeric has a lot of skincare benefits.

Heal Acne

If you’re prone to clogged pores and acne, turmeric prevents skin cells from clumping together and clogging. And it’s anti-inflammatory compounds stop acne-causing bacteria in their tracks as well as soothe already inflamed skin.

Treat hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is an annoyance we all have to deal with but regular use of turmeric skincare products can fade them away leaving skin even-toned and blemish free.

Turmeric does this by stopping the production of melanin – the pigment responsible for dark spots and other kinds of hyperpigmentation. In this way, it works very much like vitamin C.

Slow down signs of aging

Another way in which turmeric is very much like vitamin c is its ability to help our skin produce more collagen to keep it supple and youthful. While at the same time stopping the decline of elastin production which slows down the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin.

As turmeric’s skincare benefits become obvious, several well-known beauty brands have launched solitary turmeric products in the past 24 months. Emerging beauty brand Kora Organics, by Miranda Kerr is one of the few with an entire range so we decided to put the ‘Turmeric Glow Collection’ to the test.

Tested for: 12 weeks:

Tested:  For effectiveness at cleansing skin of course but also at brightening dull complexion, keeping inflammation and breakouts at bay.

The Turmeric Glow range is made up of a Foaming Cleanser, a Brightening and Exfoliating Mask, and a Glow Moisturiser- all formulated using organic ingredients to make them more anti-oxidant and potent.

Turmeric Glow Foaming Cleanser

This cleanser contains Turmeric, Noni, Aloe and Saccharide Isomerate to cleanse and calm skin at the same.

I started using this cleanser just as winter arrived, a time when my skin is usually combating dryness and dullness. A few pumps (3-5) daily did thoroughly cleanse without the need for a toner.

It’s a pH gel cleanser that foams very easily with a little bit of water so a little goes a very long way and while peppermint does have its own skincare benefits, its soothing and calming effects on the senses were really felt here.

It was invigorating when used in the morning, leaving my skin looking bright and alert. It makes a great daily face wash as it cleans the skin clean thoroughly and leaves it soft without dryness.

Turmeric Brightening & Exfoliating Mask

This award-winning mask gives the opportunity to have a weekly facial from home. It’s a 2-in-1 treatment that can be used as a scrub or detoxifying mask. At a time when AHAs and BHAs are having a moment, the rough, grainy texture and burnt orange colour of this mask can be jarring next to the soft and silky textures of the rest of the collection.

The formulation uses Turmeric and Rosehip Seeds to polish skin to reveal a smoother and brighter-looking complexion, while Aspen Bark tackles uneven texture and dullness. Another key ingredient in this mask is Mineral Powder, a skin-clarifying exfoliant that helps to improve the appearance of tone and texture.

As the ingredients indicate, this  2-in-1 mask is chock full of high-performance exfoliants so you don’t need a lot for it to do its job. All it takes is a pea-sized scrub applied in a soft circular massage, rub it in too strongly and your skin barrier will suffer the consequences.

I used this mask once a week to remove dead skin cells and unveil new, healthy skin.

Turmeric Glow Moisturiser

This is a thick moisturiser that uses a blend of Turmeric, Noni and Licorice Extract to hydrate skin while minimising the appearance of hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles.

While thick, it does get absorbed easily and leaves no residue. I found it to be nourishing as it kept my skin hydrated and protected from dryness when I was out and about.

A pearl size of cream is all that’s needed for the face, neck and décolletage in the morning and evening after your serum. Also, it comes in refillable pods to help reduce waste.

Verdict

There’s a lot to love about this Turmeric Glow collection. From the powerhouse ingredients and earth-friendly approach to the visible results. The fact that it helps skin stay soft, plump and glowing even through winter which is the toughest season on our skin, is a big plus.

Also, the commitment by the brand to use organic ingredients means it helps protect the environment as well as our skin. It keeps inflammation at bay, keeps pores clean and the skin’s PH level on an even keel – all of which we’re big fans of.

The hero of the collection is the Turmeric Glow Foaming Cleanser which does an excellent job of cleansing skin while keeping it soft and radiant.

You see a visible change in complexion with every use including erasing dark under-eye circles if you’ve had a sleepless night.

More importantly, it’ll slip easily into any skincare routine and works well with other products, if you don’t want to invest in the entire collection.

Finally, we love the earth-friendly approach of using recycled, recyclable, and biodegradable packaging, as well as making the Glow Moisturiser refillable.

This trio is highly recommended if your skin has hyperpigmentation and dull complexion issues.

The Turmeric Glow Collection is available at SpaceNK and Harrods Beauty.
