It’s that time of year again when New Year resolutions surrounding weight loss and leading a healthier lifestyle comes to the fore. As someone who is ‘allergic’ to gym memberships, I thought it appropriate to offer an alternative for those looking to get fitter from home.
Here’re my top at home workouts:
This is a current favourite of mine, from Shaun T, the creator of popular workout DVDs, Insanity and Asylum. Focus T25 is 25minutes compared to his other DVDs but just as effective. The DVDs are grouped into Alpha, Beta and Gamma workouts all lasting 5 weeks, so a 15 week fitness and diet plan to get you in shape.
Shaun uses Focus Interval Training (FIT). He takes on one muscle group at a time, works it to exhaustion and when you can’t do even one more rep, he moves on to the next muscle group.
I’m currently using Focus T25 and can attest that it is effective and will get you results if you stick to it. You’ll get an hour’s worth of results in 25 minutes a day. The DVDs come with a wall calendar and a nutritional guide.
KettleWorX 8 Week Rapid Evolution
This is a follow up to the 16 weeks DVD program by KettleWorX founder, Ryan Shannon. Of course, this is promising faster results which is always welcomed. Like previous workout DVDs from KettleWorX, workouts last just 20 mins.
The program comes complete with:
- 8 Week Rapid Evolution DVD Set (4 DVDs) – Introduction, Cardio, Core and Resistance (12 unique 20 min workouts).
- SuperCharged DVD Set (3 DVDs) – Upper Body , Lower Body and Core (9 unique 10 min advanced workouts)
- 8 Week Rapid Evolution Calendar
- Personal Fitness Guide
- Power of Eating in 3’s Eating Guide
KettleWorX 8 Week Rapid Evolution is lead by renowned Kettlebell Trainer, Alex Isaly. So that’s just 20 minutes – 3 times a week for 8 weeks to get you in the best shape of your life.
Jeanette Jenkins, Bikini Bootcamp:
Bikini Bootcamp is another excellent workout DVD workout from trainer to the stars, Jeanette Jenkins. Her Bikini Bootcamp workout DVD will get you moving for 40 minutes mobilising fat and burning between 600 -1000 calorie every time you work out. While I loved trying the bikini bootcamp, I found it to be too long and I also started getting hamstring injuries as a results but everyone is different and if you are looking to work out for about an hour a couple of times a week, this is the one for you.
Created by Debbie Siebers, Slim 6 is more about sculpting the body and less about exerting lots of energy. It’s effective but takes longer. Some of the workouts lasts an hour and the many sidekicks may take a toll on your thighs and hamstrings but you start to see a reshape of the body taking place just three weeks into the workouts especially around the arms, hips and waist.
Be Fit You Tube Channel
I have deviated a little and added the Be Fit You Tube Channel because it is one of my favourite fitness channels out there. The workouts are short – 25 mins, comes in 3 levels so you choose according to your fitness level and it’s free, what’s not to like? The trainers on the channel add new workouts weekly so there’s enough to work every part of the body and see real progress if you stick to it.
Pop Sugar fit You Tube Channel
This channel has workouts ranging from 10 minutes to 40 minutes so you get to choose which one suits you time wise. Workouts also vary, from just arms, bum and core or the whole body; there’s a workout for any part of the body you want to work out. The channel is free so all you have to do is subscribe and they usually have guest trainers usually celeb trainers so there’s a lot of variety and no fear of getting bored any time soon.
All these at home workouts are available on You Tube and can be tried before you actually buy so it’s time to work on that New Year’s fitness resolution.
