REN’s EVERCALM range is not new; it was launched years ago, with new products added periodically. If you’re active on social media, you’ve no doubt encountered an advert for the range highlighting its benefits for sensitive skin.
As mentioned, the range has been around for years, so let’s talk about the latest addition – the EVERCALM Barrier Support Body Balm. This buttery body balm promises to help repair very dry skin. If you have dry or eczema-prone skin, this could be the one for you. It also strengthens the skin barrier and claims to reverse dryness in just 14 days.

As we’ve come to expect from REN, it is made with natural and sustainably sourced bioactives, is housed in a recycled container and is fragrance-free.
Key Ingredients
REN says this buttery balm is powered by its unique Barrier Support Complex, which is made up of three natural oils rich in Omega 3, 6, and 9 – Sunflower, Apricot Kernel, and Sweet Almond oils.
It also contains Ceramides, known for repairing a damaged skin barrier and helping to restore and strengthen it. REN also uses Safflower Ceramide Complex, a blend of Omega 6, Ceramide 3, and analogues of Ceramides 2 and 10, to relieve dry skin and support the skin barrier instantly and over time.
Trial Period: 12 Weeks
Testing for: Its ability to hydrate very dry skin/areas
I don’t have particularly dry skin, except for the usual areas – elbows, knees, and chafed skin between the thighs, where most people tend to experience dryness. I really got the chance to put this balm to the test when I packed it as an afterthought for my 16-week trip across three African countries.

Texture & Performance
In terms of texture, I’d agree that the EVERCALM Barrier Support Body Balm is buttery and turns into an oil when rubbed into the skin.
However, in the African heat – a constant 40°C, it transformed from a balm into a body oil almost instantly. In fact, all my skincare products melted during the trip, and using liquefied cleansers and moisturisers was far from ideal. I ended up ditching everything except the melted EVERCALM Barrier Support Body Balm, which turned out to be delightful to use. It felt incredibly hydrating, nourishing, and soothing.
Due to the heat, my skincare routine was minimal: cleansing, air drying, applying deodorant, and finishing with the EVERCALM Barrier Support Body Balm. I even stopped wearing makeup because it would melt off before I finished applying it! Instead, I stuck to my other favourite from the EVERCALM range – the Barrier Support Elixir, along with an eyebrow pencil and lip gloss.
Despite my pared-down routine and the complete absence of makeup, my skin never felt or looked better. The constant sweating acted as a 24-hour sauna treatment, clearing out toxins and unclogging my pores. My complexion was radiant, and my usual dry areas were as soft as a baby’s skin.

Unexpected Benefits
The EVERCALM Barrier Support Body Balm also proved incredibly effective against insect bites. I forgot to pack insect spray, so naturally, the mosquitoes had a feast. However, I applied the balm immediately after being bitten, and it soothed the irritation. Impressively, I was left with no hyperpigmentation marks, despite the sheer number of bites.
Final Thoughts
Now that I’m back in the UK, I don’t use the EVERCALM Barrier Support Body Balm as frequently, but I still apply it to my knees, elbows, and inner thighs to maintain softness and hydration especially during winter months.
This balm truly proved its worth – considering the extreme conditions my skin endured in the African heat, it performed flawlessly. I have nothing but praise for this product, and in my opinion, it deserves a solid 5-star rating. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
