Every spring, my skin tells the same story.
After months of cold weather, central heating and grey skies, my complexion begins to look tired. The glow I’d spent months building gradually disappears, replaced by skin that feels rougher, duller and generally lacking the healthy radiance I prefer to see looking back at me in the mirror.
Usually, this is the point where many people book a facial or start looking at treatments like microneedling. I’ve always admired the results microneedling can deliver, particularly when it comes to refining skin texture and encouraging collagen production. There’s just one problem; I have a genuine phobia of needles.
So when Erborian launched its new Ginseng Micro Shot Serum earlier this year, promising an at-home, microneedling-inspired experience without a single appointment or needle in sight, my curiosity was immediately piqued.
As someone who’s been consistently impressed by Erborian’s skincare over the years, particularly its serums, I had high expectations and this launch didn’t disappoint.
What Is the Erborian Ginseng Micro Shot Serum?
One of Erborian’s biggest skincare launches of 2026, the Ginseng Micro Shot Serum takes inspiration from professional microneedling treatments while remaining firmly rooted in an at-home skincare routine. It’s available in two strengths and designed to suit different experience levels.
The Starter 0.1% formula is intended for those new to more intensive skincare, while the Advanced 0.3% version offers a stronger concentration for experienced users looking to target more pronounced texture concerns and fine lines.
Instead of traditional needles, the serum uses naturally derived spicules – tiny microscopic structures sourced from marine sponges. These create temporary micro-channels within the skin to enhance ingredient absorption while producing the distinctive prickling sensation that has become the product’s signature.
Alongside the spicules, the formula combines Korean red ginseng to help support collagen production with added collagen to improve skin firmness and elasticity.
On paper, it sounded promising. The real question was whether it could deliver visible results.

My Experience
The timing couldn’t have been better. By early spring, my skin was exactly where it always seems to end up after winter. The texture felt uneven, my complexion looked noticeably dull and everything lacked that healthy luminosity I love.
It felt like the perfect moment to see whether this serum could genuinely make a difference. I began with the Starter 0.1% serum, using it consistently for around ten weeks before progressing to the Advanced 0.3% version.
One thing that stood out me immediately was the texture. Although technically a serum, it feels much richer than almost any Erborian serum I’ve previously used. It has a creamy consistency that initially made me wonder whether it might sit heavily on the skin. It doesn’t.
Instead, it absorbs remarkably quickly, leaving behind no stickiness or residue. What comes next is the part everyone will be talking about.

Does It Actually Feel Like Microneedling?
Yes. Or at least, what I imagine microneedling feels like.
Within moments of application, a noticeable prickling sensation begins to develop across the skin. It’s unlike anything I’ve experienced from a skincare product before.
The feeling isn’t uncomfortable, but it’s certainly noticeable. It genuinely feels as though tiny needles are lightly pressing into the skin.
With the Starter 0.1% formula, the sensation settles within seconds once I apply my moisturiser.
The Advanced 0.3% serum is a different experience. The prickling lasts considerably longer; often close to an hour after application, which makes the increased concentration immediately obvious.
Interestingly, I only discovered months later that Erborian recommends using the serum in the evening. When I first introduced it into my routine, I used it in the mornings before following with a high-protection SPF. I now follow the brand’s guidance and reserve it for my evening routine.
The Results
Around the ten-day mark, I began noticing the first real changes. It wasn’t a dramatic overnight transformation, instead, my skin gradually started looking healthier.
The roughness I’d been feeling across my complexion began to smooth out, pores appeared more refined and, perhaps most noticeably, my skin started regaining the brightness it had lost over winter.
By the time I’d finished the entire Starter bottle and moved on to the Advanced formula, my complexion had completely turned a corner. The healthy glow had returned. My skin looked smoother. It felt plumpier. Most importantly, it looked like itself again.
As a consequence, I found myself wearing less makeup. I’m a big believer in allowing my skin to breathe whenever possible and as my complexion improved, I naturally started going makeup-free several days a week because I genuinely liked how my skin looked. For me, that’s probably the highest compliment I can give any skincare product.

Starter 0.1% or Advanced 0.3%?
If you’re completely new to spicule technology or stronger active skincare, I’d recommend beginning with the Starter 0.1%. It provides exactly the same experience, just with a much gentler sensation.
Once your skin becomes accustomed to it, progressing to the Advanced version feels like a natural next step rather than an overwhelming jump. Unless you’re already experienced with stronger treatments, I don’t see much reason to skip straight to the Advanced formula.
Is It Worth It?
Absolutely. Effective skincare doesn’t always need to be dramatic. Sometimes the best products are the ones that quietly improve your skin over time until one day you realise you’re reaching for foundation less often. That’s exactly what happened here.
This isn’t a replacement for professional microneedling, nor does it claim to be. But for anyone who doesn’t like needles, can’t justify regular clinic appointments or simply wants to improve skin texture from home, it offers a genuinely compelling alternative.
As someone fortunate enough to test a wide range of skincare products throughout the year, I can confidently say this has been one of my standout discoveries of 2026. It’s a serum I’ll continue using long after this review has been published.
Final Verdict
Erborian’s Ginseng Micro Shot Serum delivers something that’s surprisingly rare in modern skincare: it lives up to its promises.
Over nearly six months of testing, it transformed my post-winter skin from dull and rough to brighter, smoother and noticeably healthier-looking. The microneedling-inspired sensation is unlike anything else in my routine, but it’s the gradual improvement in skin texture and radiance that ultimately makes this serum so memorable.
If you’ve been curious about microneedling but hesitant to commit to needles or simply want an effective serum that delivers visible results from home; this is one launch that deserves a place on your shortlist.
