The one question I kept mauling over as I travelled almost 3 hours to get to Reach Bar and Kitchen was, why would anyone come all this way to visit a pub? Well, the answer is surprisingly good food!
The protracted journey might not suit someone from the other end of London but for the residents of Gallions Reach, it is perfect. A new development of flats with nothing in sight, Reach Bar and Kitchen is the perfect neighbourhood pub for a night out or to meet other residents.
I was irritated by the long journey but pleasantly surprised when I got to my destination.
Situated in a Grade II listed building within the Gallions Hotel, E16, Reach Bar and Kitchen is warm and cosy with very friendly staff.
Expect quality French wine, even if my Italian colleague didn’t want to admit it and fantastic food. The chef, Mickael Chalopin is definitely a cut above your average pub cook.
Reach Bar and Kitchen offers warm, hearty traditional meals as well as homemade tapas at the bar; and the prices aren’t bad for such high quality food either: Starters from £4.50, main course from £8.50 and desserts from £4.50.
Despite my troubled journey, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Reach Bar and Kitchen and would definitely go there again anytime I’m in the East End.
