Considering my love of face oils, it’s very fitting that my first beauty review of 2019 is a beauty face oil. Happy new year to me 🙂
First of all, I had no idea what Squalane was so naturally I had to do my homework to find out all I can about it.
Turns out Squalane is a stable hydrocarbon found naturally in the skin. You’d have to revisit your chemistry textbooks to find out what a hydrocarbon is but in relation to our skin, Squalane is an exceptional hydrator that can prevent ongoing loss of hydration that impairs dermal suppleness. It’s also an antioxidant so it has antiaging properties.
That certainly perked me up – the fact that it hydrates skin and keeps it supple. After all, without hydration, our skin will be dry, tight and flaky; not to mention easily prone to wrinkles.
Squalane can be derieved from many sources but being a vegan beauty company, Melixir’s Squalane Face Oil is derived from plants and also contains other ingredients such as rosemary to ensure the potency of the oil.
And provides solutions for many skin concerns including:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Healing sensitive skin types
- Dryness and rough texture
- Large pores
The oil can be used as a powerful night time renewal serum for radiant, youthful-looking skin come morning but I’ve been using it round the clock for enhanced hydration and it does make my skin glow.
Also, because the Squalane is plant-derived, it helps to regulate excess oil production, fight bacteria, and minimize the look of pores, making it a great solution for acne-prone skin. You can also count on it to diminish fine lines over time.
The oil itself is very light, a few drops is all you need. I like that it absorbs very easily into the skin without leaving residue and gives a matte feel. I usually skip using a primer when I apply it because it gives such an amazing canvas for me to apply makeup. It’s also fragrance free which is a huge bonus for me.
Armoured with my newly acquired knowledge, let’s just say I’m all for Squalane. You definitely need it in your skincare routine. Check the ingredient lists of new skincare products, it’ll probably be on the list. I have a hunch Squalane will be the ‘IT’ ingredient of 2019.
Finally, I thought the packaging the Squalane Face Oil came in really embodies what Melixir is all about; veganism, clean skincare and the sustainability of our planet. All products are free from Parabens, Silicones, Sulfates, Phthalates, or any other nasties.
With that in mind, all their products are plant derived and is combined with Korean technology to produce powerful and visibly effective results. It’s a true merge of Korean beauty and vegan principles. And we all know how advanced Korean skincare is.
