It’s that time of year, summer’s over but it’s not full blown autumn yet. The weather is uncertain, it swings between being warm one minute and chilly the next.
Usually, it’s this time of year that I become susceptible to little colds, flu and infections that make me feel a sick, and fatigued that lasts till spring.
And I’ve noticed, it’s the same for most people I know. In fact both my mum and best friend are suffering from severe cold, and incessant coughing at the moment. So it’s important to double down on immune boosters to keep these niggling health issues at bay.
As I looked into health supplements it became obvious very quickly that there are so many out there that it can get overwhelming. It’s important to be selective or you can spend a fortune trying to get everything thing out there. Because there are health supplements for every possible pain and niggle you can think of.
I approached this by using the same philosophy I apply to my skincare which is, the more multipurpose it is, the better.
So the supplements that I have chosen, do more than resolve just one issue in one part of the body, instead they boost the immune system as a whole and also help solve some deficiencies to optimise health because this is the year I’m determined to be flu free and full of energy throughout autumn and winter.
Here is a selection of the most important supplements worth having this autumn and winter.
Sambucol Immuno Forte
I’m a big fan of this liquid immune booster, for three reasons; it tastes great, comes in different flavours and it works fast. I first used it twelve months ago when I was suffering from a debilitating cold and I needed relief fast. It worked quicker than a cough syrup so it’s first on my list every autumn. Sambucol Immuno Forte contains Vitamin C and Zinc which is required by the body for the normal functioning of the immune system, and is free from artificial flavours.
Vitamin B Complex
This one is important all year round, not just in autumn and winter because the body doesn’t produce it. We get it from what we eat. I like B-complex supplements because the one pill is packed with eight B vitamins.
For a little pill, B-complex supplements packs a punch. It boosts the immune system as well as relieve stress, boost cognitive performance and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.
Cod Liver Oil
This is a supplement I take all year round but it’s even more important this time of year. It’s high in omega-3 fatty acids, which are linked to many health benefits, including reduced inflammation and lower blood pressure. It also contains vitamins A and D, both of which provide many other health benefits including maintaining healthy eyes, brain function and skin.
East meets West Immune Formula
This East meets West Immune Formula is a new and interesting one for me. It’s my first time trying an all-natural plant based immune booster. This one combines Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Vitamin B12 and Zinc, which all contribute to a normal immune system, with the herbs of Garlic, Turmeric and Shilajit.
Another supplement on my list is Vitamin D because it has several important functions in the body. This time of year, we get less of it because there’s less sunshine and we stay indoors a lot because it’s cold outside.
Vitamin D is importance for normal growth and development of bones and teeth. It also improves the body’s resistance against certain diseases like flu and multiple sclerosis.
Wellman Energy Vitabiotics Effervescent Tablets
I like these Effervescent Tablets because they are convenient and work quickly. Convenient because I have them in my bag on the go so I can get an energy boost when I’m feeling low throughout the day.
It provides magnesium, iron and niacin (vitamin B3) which contribute to normal energy release, plus iron which supports normal oxygen transport in the body.
So there you have it, health supplements will ensure your immune system stays healthy so you keep common health issues at bay this time of year. You don’t have to go for these particular supplements because like I said, there are so many out there to choose from. One advice I’ll give, is to go for multipurpose supplements so your body can get the best out of it.
I personally do my health supplements shopping at Holland and Barrett and Lloyds Pharmacy but they can be found in many health stores so the choice is yours. I’d also love to hear about your supplement recommendations.
