Spring is finally here. That means we’ll finally be able to see flowers blooming, feel temperatures rising, and of course, start shedding all those bulky winter layers. Now that you’re no longer confined to thick jumpers or coats, this season is the perfect time to try on some fresh silhouettes.
Don’t forget that choosing your clothing style is only half the battle, as selecting the right silhouette is equally important. If you’re not quite sure where to start, here are the most flattering silhouettes to rock this spring.
Tops

The best way to break from your layers is by wearing tops with a structured silhouette. If you’re hoping to make a style statement this spring, veer from the basic cotton tee and go for either an off-the-shoulder garment or a puff sleeve piece.
As I shared some time back, the off-the-shoulder top is a breakout star in the fashion world. Despite being a passing trend in the past, this top has now become a style staple again, as its simple yet refined neckline looks flattering on any figure. And if you want to highlight your shoulders even more, be sure to store away the necklaces and wear statement earrings instead.

For something more playful, puff sleeve pieces are perfect this season. Although they’re basically the complete opposite of off-the-shoulder garments, they look great on every body type. Moreover, designer Maggie Marilyn notes that puff sleeves are a flattering way to add structure, while still exuding femininity — which is perfect for spring’s romantic style. The trick here is to ensure that the sleeve’s dimensions draw attention away from your hips.
Dresses
A sweet dress is practically synonymous with spring style, as their easy elegance goes exceptionally well with the weather. But with the array of styles out there, it’s easy to get confused about which ones to wear.

Fortunately, a flowing maxi dress is a piece you can always trust. On that note, Pretty Me fashion columnist Sheena Dizon recommends belting as a way to accentuate your figure no matter what body type you have. The key is to wear a thin belt high above your waist to elongate your torso. Plus, a thin belt is a more comfortable choice, since thick and chunky belts can feel quite constricting.

And if you prefer a frock with a shorter hemline for warmer spring days, style editor Natasha Harding points out that shirt dresses recently made a splash on the spring/summer 2020 runways. What makes this silhouette so effortlessly chic is the marriage of a relaxed and tailored fit. Just make sure that your dress doesn’t go past your knees so it won’t look too dowdy.
Trousers

To really make an impression this season, you should invest in a pair of flare trousers. The fashion industry is nostalgic to say the least, so it shouldn’t be surprising that this groovy garment from the ‘70s was featured on the runways of top designers like Gucci, Paco Rabanne, and Victoria Beckham.
If you have a pear or hourglass body shape, these trousers will fit you like a glove, as your hips can balance out their cut. But if you’re petite and worried that your body will drown in fabric, don’t fret. Flare trousers can still be flattering when you wear a cropped or high-waisted version as these styles will elongate your legs.
