How the Scosche Rhythm aids fitness.

The Scosche Rhythm is a lightweight, pulse and heart monitor that allows users to manage pulse, calories burned, distance, speed and pace.

The idea behind this fitness gadget is that once you know exactly how hard you are working out or how many calories you are burning; you can adjust your fitness plan accordingly for optimum results.

The Scosche Rhythm uses to Bluetooth technology that can be controlled wirelessly through a smartphone or tablet application to manage workouts and fitness goals. All uses have to do is attach the device to their forearm.

Main features:

  • The Scosche Rhythm can be controlled wirelessly through a smartphone or tablet application.
  • It enables users to control their workout music.
  • The Scosche Rhythm also allows users to have a personalised home page, route mapping and work out summary that is tailored to their workout schedule.
  • The Scosche Rhythm comes with a charger that plugs into a USB port.
  • The device is resistant sweat and other liquids involved in workouts.

The point of this Scosche Rhythm fitness experiment was to find out how accurately it recorded all fitness activity and whether the numbers it produces encouraged more activity to reach a targeted goal.

Usage

-The arm band needs to be snug to for it to properly monitor the heart rate, but it wasn’t uncomfortable.
The device is easy enough to put on; the band is an elasticated strap with Velcro fasteners which can be adjusted.

-The application is not as easy to use as you’d expect. Although functional, navigation in general, finding out results and information was hard work – had to give it a few tries to find the results I was after.

Verdict

Once I finally mastered the navigation, the Scosche Rhythm was easy enough to use. It provided information like steps walked, calories burned and the voice command suggesting I speed up or slow down my workout in order to match a target heart rate was very cool.

Did it encourage me to work harder? In some cases when the device showed I’d walked or jogged far less than I’d hoped, it did spur me on to work harder just to reach the target I’d set.

Bottomline, the Scosche Rhythm is not a necessity for getting fit but if you want to keep on top of your workouts while enjoying your music and other functionalities of your smartphone, it is not a bad choice to go for.
It does what it says on the box which is monitor your heart rate during fitness workouts.

The Scosche Rhythm available from Apple Stores for £99.99.
