Ever since I used Dermalogica’s Charcoal Rescue Masque, I’ve become a huge fan of active charcoal beauty and skincare products. I finished the masque a few months ago and have been on the lookout for new active charcoal products ever since.
The Charcoal Rescue Masque is one of the hardest working beauty products I have come across; it cleanses, exfoliates, brightens and rejuvenated tired skin – it really is a great product.
And while I may not find a multitasking product like that, I was optimistic as there are so many charcoal beauty products out there. I was pretty confident I’ll find activated charcoal products that at the very least exfoliate and trap toxins thus leaving my pores clean and skin radiant. I wasn’t disappointed, true there are a lot of products out there to choose from and the ones I’ve been trying have far exceeded my expectations.
Starting with my first pick, Dr. Organic Tea Tree Deep Pore Charcoal Mask. I picked it up at Holland and Barretts a few weeks ago, it’s affordable, under the £10 mark.
It contains Willow Bark Extract and of course Charcoal that provides deep cleansing for the skin. It’s a great treatment for spots, blemishes, breakouts and problem skin in general but also great for normal skin as it exfoliates and promotes skin cell renewal.
Tuesday is mask day for me so I try to incorporate this Deep Pore Charcoal Mask into my routine as much as I can. I apply just a thin layer and allow it to dry before rinsing with warm water leaving my skin feeling clean and soft. I also like that it doesn’t dry my skin, something most masks do – I think that’s Dr. Organic’s blend of bioactive and organic extracts at work.
Next on my list is this Biore Charcoal Oil Control Scrub which caught my eye while I was in Superdrug. This one is a fast worker, and I’ll recommend trying it if you have problem skin because it exfoliates away blemish causing dirt and absorbs excess oil to help eliminate breakouts for clear skin in just 2 days!
I love a good scrub, and probably massaging it on my face and rinsing will get the job done but I like to apply it before I shower and return to it last by working it into my skin with a cleansing brush. It always gives me a sense of a deep cleanse; that somehow my pores have been through an experience. It’s difficult to explain the feeling but my skin just feels different after use.
It’s not like a typical mask so it’s gel like and doesn’t dry. It contains natural charcoal and 2% Salicylic Acid and uses Skin Purifying Technology to exfoliate without disturbing the skin’s natural moisture barrier.
My third charcoal beauty product was a surprise discovery, I already had in my possession. You know the feeling you get when you discover forgotten change in your sofa cushions? That’s how I feel about Mark Kay products. I always somehow have some hidden in drawers and I stumble on them at the right time. I was excited to find this Mary Kay Clear Proof® Deep-Cleansing Charcoal Mask while rearranging my skincare cabinet, and I immediately had to try it. It’s a triple-action charcoal mask that acts like a magnet to deep-clean pores. It contains activated charcoal which acts like a magnet to unclog pores, as well as extracts of rosemary and peppermint. It almost immediately absorb excess oil and reduce shine when used.
It’s a great addition to my skincare regiment and I especially love the cooling sensation I get after use. It’s definitely worth trying if you’re looking for a good cleansing mask that will leaves pores completely clean.
The next beauty product on my list is this Holland and Barrett Teeth Whitening Powder. Yes I’ve seen a lot of charcoal toothpaste brands circulating on Instagram but I’m new to charcoal Teeth Whitening Powder. This one contains Activated Charcoal which removes stains and discolouration from the surface of teeth. While this isn’t a traditional beauty product, I see a beautiful smile on the face as part of the beauty package, so that’s my justification for its addiction. Another great thing about this active charcoal teeth whitening powder is that it doesn’t just whiten teeth, it naturally adsorbs plaque and changes the pH balance in the mouth as well. For best results, brush your teeth with activated charcoal two-three times per week.
I had tons of fun writing this post because I genuinely love skincare and the secrets to healthy, radiant skin. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the products. What did you think and are there any charcoal products that you think I should check out?
