Who knew we all harboured a secret affection for working out? Perhaps it’s a case of wanting what we can’t have, knowing that gyms are closed and not knowing when they’ll reopen; or perhaps we’ve all come to realise that what doctors and health experts have been saying for years is true – that being able to leisurely walk on a treadmill, ride a bike or swing a dumbbell, not only contributed to our physical health but our mental wellbeing as well.
Now that the chickens have come home to roost thanks to Covid-19, you’ll be lucky to find workout equipment to buy in stores but the online fitness industry is booming right now. You can find workouts everywhere, paid and free – mostly on YouTube.
But not everyone was a gym bunny before this pandemic began and there’s nothing more annoying than logging on to a live workout session to find it’s not on your fitness level. Most of us are doing complicated, high intensity workouts that we neither have the strength nor the fitness capacity for, resulting in injury.
Even a recent study showed that there’s a rise in exercise related injuries; with Google searches for common injuries having surged – knee pain is up +471%, and sprained ankle has increased +267% in the weeks since lockdown.
So if you’re not a big fan of cardio or are looking for short and mild workout videos on your fitness level, check out these 5, ten-minute workout videos you can do at home to maintain your physical and mental health. There’s one for each day of the week to work different parts of the body.
