Learn how to make sushi and other delights at SOZAI.
SOZAI – meaning “household dishes” and “ingredients” in Japanese – is a brand new concept and the first Japanese cooking school in the UK where chefs will show students how to make dishes ranging from sushi and tempura, to authentic kaiseki and street food such as ramen and okonomiyaki.
The cooking classes will be taught by some of the most celebrated Japanese chefs in the UK, they include Akemi Yokoyama, an accomplished cook and presenter, Atsuko Ikeda, an expert in super-healthy vegan cuisine of Japanese Buddhist origins and Kaoru Yamamoto, head Chef at London’s acclaimed So Restaurant.
The cooking school’s concept is a great way to spend time with friends cooking and tasting sake, while learning something new.
There are plenty of classes to choose from. There’s Let’s Roll – Sushi Class which is a fantastic introduction to sushi making. You will be taught how to roll sushi, sushi vinegar and sushi rice, following step-by-step instructions which include cutting techniques and other sushi making skills. Yuki – who takes this particular course – will even recommend Japanese grocery stores, fishmongers, so there will be no excuse to not practice your new skills at your next dinner party.
Vegetarians are not excluded and it’s not all about tofu. In the vegetarian class you will also get the chance to make gyozas, miso soup, edamame rice and cucumber and sea vegetable salad “sunomono”.
The school is also flexible and you can organise a tailor made cooking experience to suit your needs.
Classes will be held at two kitchens in central London in E1 and W1. All classes typically run for 90 – 120 minutes.
To celebrate its opening, if you book before 28th of February you will receive 70% off standard class prices (www.sozai.co.uk).
